Greetings everyone,
It has been a while
since, I last wrote a blog and this one started off as a Facebook post but I
noticed it was so long; I decided to make it a blog (smile).
I am a huge fan of the TV
shows All-American and All-American Homecoming.
But, I always felt the
character Simone Hicks as a beautiful Black female and athlete is not a good example for
young Black females; to be a main character.
Below is my reasons why:
1. Jordan and Simone
hooked up as a one night stand in high school and she pinned her baby on Jordan
knowing he was not the father but Jordan was in love with her accepted the baby
and they got married then divorced. After getting divorced, Jordan still wanted
to be with her but due to her going to college long distance and developing
feelings for another man, the relationship ended!
2. Damon and Simone met
while visiting the college campus and at the time; Simone was with Jordan. Like
any male who desires a female, Damon still took his shot but was shot down! The
two agreed to be friends and saw other people but eventually they got together
until Damon found out Simone was messing around and she had to make a choice!
She chose Damon until he was moving to another country to play professional
baseball. Simone told Damon she did not believe in long distance relationships
and she ended it!
3. Lando and Simone's
relationship was first built off of sex. But Simone helped Lando to
believe in himself and to discover his true gifts and talents. She also taught
him to be more open minded. Lando eventually fell in love with Simone; who was sleeping
with him and Damon. Lando and Damon told Simone she had to choose and she chose
Damon but she really wanted her cake and eat it too!
Someone Hicks is a great
example of the song by Coi Leray "Players" when she says, "Women
Are Players Too."
