On this day, Sunday, December 24, 1995, I became Damon X. I became a registered Muslim in the Nation of Islam at Muhammad Mosque No. 8 in San Diego, California. It is one of the happiest days of my life. To get my name in the Lamb’s book of life.
I recited to my first Captain of the Nation of Islam Brother Robert and the First Officer whose name was also Robert. My First Officer shed tears of joy because he was so happy for me and they said, “the devil lost another one." That is something that is usually said when a brother or sister gets their X.
For those that do not know what the X stands for; It stands for unknown. We replace the X for our last name, which we are taught belongs to our former slave masters. We are saying, we are no longer their slaves and we do not know ourselves because we had lost the knowledge of ourselves when we became slaves. We lost our religion, our culture, and our heritage.
Also to explain, the first brother or sister who gets their X will be the first X. Example: Damon X, Damon 2X, Damon 3X, and so on.
This day is my Spiritual Celebration of Life. As Jesus says, we have to be reborn again. Also, like Neo on the Matrix was reborn/reprogrammed. So, this day will always be cherished and Dear to my heart.
